Welcome to Cairo! Upon arrival we meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Once settled in, you will head to Old Cairo and later proceed to Coptic Cairo, where you will visit the Church of St George, Abu Sefein Monastery and the Hanging Church (formally known as Saint Virgin Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church), which is one of the oldest churches in Egypt. You’ll head back to your hotel and spend the night there.

After breakfast, your day begins with a visit to the Giza Plateau, site of Egypt's world famous Great Pyramids, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. We visit the great Pyramids of Giza and the
ever-enigmatic Sphinx, Memphis-first capital of the ancient kingdom to see the statue of Ramses II. Following on from the Pyramids we then head to the Egyptian Museum in central Cairo, home to the fantastic Tutankhamun exhibit, the museum hosts a huge number of other ancient Egyptian artifacts. You then have some free time to relax in the evening.

After breakfast, you start your day visiting the Cathedral of Abbasiya, considered the largest church in Africa and a unique example or architectural evolution which includes seven churches of great historic value. You will then visit St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church, also known as El-Botroseya or the Petrine Church, located in the vicinity St Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral and built in 1911 over the Egyptian
prime minister Boutros Ghali’s tomb. You then have some free time to relax in the evening.

After breakfast, you start the day going to Khan el-Khalili, a major souk in the Islamic district of Cairo. The bazaar is loud, crowded, colorful, exciting and a great place for shopping – full of all kinds of goods and shiny baubles. Later, you will visit the Pharaonic Village, a living museum of Egyptian history, with replicas of an ancient village and the tomb of Tutankhamen. In the evening, you gather in a local restaurant to enjoy a typical Middle Eastern dinner.

After breakfast, you will visit Mokattem Mountain, believed to have moved up and down when the Coptic Pope Abraham of Alexandria performed a mass near it to prove to the Caliph that the Gospel is true when it says that if one has faith like a grain of mustard one can move a mountain. Later, you will head to Zeitoun, where an alleged mass Marian apparition occurred above the Church of Virgin Mary, over a period of 2-3 years beginning in April of 1968. You then have some free time to relax in the evening.

After breakfast, you will head to Hurghada, where you will be able to relax and unwind by the Red Sea. Your time is free for the next 3 days to relax in Hurghada, or to take advantage of some of the adventurous activities on offer. Hurghada is the perfect place to enjoy some scuba diving and snorkeling as the excellent Red Sea marine life attracts divers from around the world. Other activities available include quad biking, camel rides, wind surfing, sea fishing trips, kite surfing and glass bottomed submarines. Our local representative will be happy to help assist with any arrangements.

After breakfast, you leave Hurghada this morning and head to the Monastery of Saint Anthony. Standing in an oasis in the Eastern desert of Egypt, surrounded by the Red Sea mountains lies the oldest Coptic monastery in Egypt. The Monastery relies on springs for its water supply, both still observe rituals that have hardly changed in 16 centuries. After exploring the monastery and having free time for a prayer, head to St. Paul’s Retreat House for overnight and dinner.

Perched about 300m above St Anthony's Monastery on a cliff just outside the monastery walls is the cave where Anthony spent the final 40 years of his life. Right after breakfast you will climb up the 1158 wooden steps to the cave entrance and 680 meters above the Red Sea. The spectacular cave offers stunning views of the mountains and the sea and the chance to see a wide range of bird life. Spend the afternoon at St. Paul’s Monastery, dedicated to the hermit St. Paul of Thebes, who moved to this spot in the wilderness around 250 AD. Originally built in the 5th century, the monastery now has three churches and contains many important manuscripts. Return to Cairo for overnight.

After breakfast, you will head to Alexandria. The city still has some classic colonial architecture and Roman remains, including an amphitheater, which has twelve semi-circular marble tiers and is in remarkable good condition, Pompey’s pillar and the Catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa, which is the largest Roman cemetery in Alexandria. You will also visit Fort Qaitbay (built on the site of the ancient Pharos lighthouse) and the impressive library, which is one of the largest and most significant libraries in the ancient world. In the afternoon, you enjoy a visit to the beautiful Montaza Palace and have free time in the evening.

After breakfast, you will visit the modern monastery of St. Mina, which is built close to the ruins of Abu Mena, the original pilgrimage site of the Holy Family. We proceed to the Monastery of St. Macarius (Dair Abu Maqar), the southernmost of the monastery group of the Wadi al-Natrun. The monastery was founded in approximately 360 AD by Saint Macarius of Egypt, who was the spiritual father to more than four thousand monks of different nationalities. We continue our trip to Alexandria, where we will spend the night and enjoy a memorable boat experience.

After breakfast, you will start the day visiting Tanta, which is located between Cairo and Alexandria for a visit to St. George Church and St. Mark Church. We will proceed to St. Mina Monastery, Coptic Orthodox monastery located in the Western Desert near Alexandria. The modern monastery is built close to the ruins of Abu Mena, the original pilgrimage site of the Holy Family. Before heading back to your hotel for dinner and overnight, you will go on a tuk-tuk tour and experience traffic like a local.

Enjoy a continental breakfast at the hotel, located right in front of the sea before proceeding to a visit at St. Demiana Monastery, named after an Egyptian martyr of the early fourth century. St. Demiana lived in the first Coptic Orthodox coenobitic monastery for nuns, living the monastic, ascetic life with her forty unmarried and virgin friends dedicating their lives to fasting, praying and reading the holy books. We proceed to St. Virgin Mary and St. Abanoub Church in Samanoud, where it is said that the Holy Family visited during their stay in Egypt. The church still contains the well from which Jesus, St. Mary and St. Joseph drank. Return to Cairo for overnight and dinner at your hotel.
